Grandma Singletons Cheesy Sausage Rolls

Serves 10

150g Grated Parlick Fell Sheep’s Milk Cheese, grated
450g Sausage meat
375g Ready rolled puff pastry
200g Chilli jam
1 Egg, beaten
2 Teaspoons sesame seeds
1 Teaspoon of dried cumin
Plain flour for dusting

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 220˚c / gas mark 7.  Dust the work surface with flour then unroll the pasty onto it.  Cut the pastry lengthways into 2 long strips.
  2. Spoon the chilli jam over the pastry and spread evenly.  Sprinkle an even layer of Parlick Fell cheese over the top of the jam.
  3. In a bowl mix together the sausage meat and dried cumin.  Split the meat into two and roll each half out into a thin strip equal to the length of each pastry half.
  4. Place a strip of sausage into the middle of the pastry half.  Brush one long end of the pastry with egg.  Roll the sausage into the pastry and overlap the edges.  Press to secure then cut into 5.
  5. Repeat this for the other half of pastry and sausage meat.  Place all the rolls onto a baking tray with the pastry join to the bottom.
  6. Brush egg over the top of each roll and sprinkle over sesame seeds to decorate. Bake in the oven for approximately 25 minutes, or until the sausage is cooked through and the pastry is golden brown.
  7. Perfect to take along on a summer picnic or for an adult party treat.  Adapt the recipe for kids using tomato puree instead of chilli jam and a medium cheddar instead of sheeps cheese.
